Asexual morph: Colonies on the natural substrate superficial, effuse, thin, brown. Hyphae thin-walled, smooth, pale brown, 1.5–3 μm wide. Conidiophores micronematous, not differentiated from vegetative hyphae. Conidiogenous cell apically becoming broader and giving rise to a single conidium, approx. 4–8×3– 4 μm. Conidia euseptate, thin-walled and staurosporous, composed of an apically inflated basal cell and (1–)3–4(−6) arms (n030), 1–2 basal arms arising from the basal cell, the other arms from the basal cells of the basal arms, rarely arranged in a plane, mostly in three dimensions, arms closely appressed to each other from the base to the apex (Dictyosporium-type) or diverging (Digitodesmium-type), each composed of (4–)6–10 (−11) (n030), smooth, brown cells, each cell (2–)3–5.5(−7) μm long, (3.5–)4.5–6.5(−8) μm wide, (14–)21–33(−35) μm long (n030), with an apical hyaline broadly clavate cell which develops after maturation of the arms and then collapses. Apical cell approx. 6–7 μm long and 5–6 μm wide, appearing to be covered by a mucilaginous tunica up to 5 μm thick, the base of the tunica appearing to be continuous with the outer brown cell wall of the arm. Conidia including the basal cell and without apical hyaline cells (22–)28.5–38(−43) μm long and at the widest part at or below the middle (12–)14.5–21.5(−30) μm wide (n030). Sexual morph: Undetermined. (Description based on Kirschner et al. (2013)).

NOTES: This species was originally introduced as Cheiromyces inflatus (Matsushima 1983) and subsequently referred to Dictyosporium (Kirschner et al. 2013) based on a molecular study. However, in much larger molecular study, the species was referred to Jalapriya (Boonmme et al. 2016). Boonmee et al. (2016) introduced the family Dictyosporiaceae to accommodate a holomorphic group of Dothideomycetes that are saprobes on decaying wood and plant debris in terrestrial, freshwater and marine habitats. Jalapriya includes three aquatic species (J. pulchra, J inflata, J. toruloides) and cluster in a monophyletic clade in the Dictyosporiaceae.
