Comments:
NOTES: Sutherland reports the fungus was found in great abundance on Ascophyllum nodosum along the shores of the Orkney islands during the summer of 1914. This is an elusive fungus and has only been reported by Kohlmeyer (unpublished data) from France, Wales and Norway. Webber (1959) also commented on a collection of O. ascophylli collected in Wales. There are no culture or sequenced data for this ascomycete and assignment to a higher order cannot be resolved. Wijayawadene et al. (2017) place this ascomycete in the Pezizales based on the operculate ascus illustrated by Kohlmeyer and Kohlmeyer (1979). Further collections are required to better understand this interesting fungus.
