(1982-1985) 10(1): 20 (1991)

Sexual morph: saprobic, ascomata 200-400 µm long x 140-220 µm diam., hyaline or subhyaline, immersed, subglobose to ellipsoidal, axis, horizontal to host surface, ostiolate, papillate, neck bending at 90 °C to protrude through the substratum, membranous, immersed beneath a thin dark stroma, solitary or gregarious. Neck hyaline to light brown, periphysate, hairy. Peridium thin, hyaline composed of thick-walled compressed cells towards the inside, and very thick-walled small cells towards the outside. Comments:
NOTES: Mangrovispora pemphii is reported from the maritime intertidal plant Pemphis (Lythraceae) and is only known from the host locality Stephens Island (Torres Straits). There is no living culture and recollection, isolation and sequencing is urgently required to determine its taxonomic position in the Sordariomycetes. A second species Mangrovispora irregularis has been described from palm fronds in a tropical forest (Yanna et al. 2004). Maharachchikumbura et al. (2015) do not appear to list Mangrovispora, while Jones et al. (2015) refer it to the Phyllachorales incertae sedis.
